ANNOUNCEMENTS/UPDATES
Missing Work, Grades, Progress Reports, and Conferences - PLEASE READ CLOSELY
Hello students and parents,
These first few weeks of school have been difficult for all of us in ways we couldn't have anticipated, and I am blown away by how well many of the students and parents have adjusted to this new (and hopefully temporary) normal. For the most part, students have done a wonderful job logging in every day and doing what is required of them, and I am extremely proud of how they have been handling everything. 2020 has done nothing but thrown us surprises, and the students have adapted extremely well.
This post has two main focuses - parents and students.
PARENTS
As you may be aware, progress reports and parent conferences are coming up on Thursday, October 1st from 4-7 PM.
Here is what you need to know about conferences:
STUDENTS
While this has been a difficult and unique transitionary period for all of us, there comes a time with transitions end and day to day business has to be done. We've battled technology issues, hardware issues, website issues, camera issues, and issues with the TEAMS platform, and almost all of these issues have smoothed out for the most part. Now we have to focus on getting things done.
If you look at your PowerSchool, there are many students who have been failing to submit assignments, and this is greatly affecting their grade in a detrimental way. The easiest way to kill an average is to throw a zero into the mix. If you are one of these students who has NOT been submitting work, you need to submit any late or missing work ASAP if you want to get any kind of partial credit (which is better than no credit at all).
If you have been unable to submit work because of technology issues and you haven't told me that, I can't help you there. I didn't know you had technology issues. If you're having issues you should ALWAYS tell me and I can help you find a solution. If you don't tell me anything I have to work under the assumption that you just simply aren't doing the work.
If you read and remember my syllabus, I said the number one reason people have struggled in any of my classes over my career was because they didn't turn in work. There is simply no excuse to NOT turn in work. I'd rather you give me something halfway done and get some credit instead of getting nothing.
I know school right now looks different from anything you've experienced before, but the gradebook is still the same and the consequences from what is in the gradebook are still the same. Don't let the idea that this isn't real because we are meeting virtually - the grades are still very real.
Here's what you need to know:
Pardon the length of this post, but I wanted to make sure that I got all the information across that was needed. I hope everyone has a great weekend and again, thank you so much for being such troopers during this weird time. Hopefully we will see a return to some level of normalcy soon.

PARENTS
As you may be aware, progress reports and parent conferences are coming up on Thursday, October 1st from 4-7 PM.
Here is what you need to know about conferences:
- If you would like to request a conference, follow this link and complete the Google Form detailing your conference request. These must be submitted no later than 11:59 PM on Tuesday 09/29/20.
- Do not contact a teacher directly with a request for conference. All requests must go through the Google Form and handled by Guidance.
- All conferences will be done virtually through TEAMS or over the phone. Due to COVID-19, there will be no in-person meetings.
- Scheduled conferences will be available in the following time slots:
- 4:00, 4:20, 4:40, 5:00, 5:20, 5:40, 6:00, 6:20, 6:40 PM
- Teachers have been asked to call students/parents of our choosing if we have an open time slot, so if you did not schedule a conference and still receive a phone call, this is why.

Here's what you need to know:
- The grading period for this first progress report ends on Wednesday 09/30/20. Any grades after that date will NOT appear on the progress report.
- If you have late or missing work, I need it submitted via TEAMS (or on Turnitin if you're in my English class and still haven't submitted your personal narrative) by TUESDAY 09/29/20. This is to give me time to get these things graded and in PowerSchool before conferences.
- If for some reason you cannot submit work to me via TEAMS or Turnitin, EMAIL YOUR WORK TO ME.
